Mental Health Social Worker

Mental health social workers assist individuals with mental health disorders to resolve associated psychosocial problems and improve their quality of life. Mental health social workers offer a range of psychosocial services to assist clients at a psycho-therapeutic and problem solving level. They are trained in a range of therapeutic modalities for working with individuals, couples, groups and families. Some specialize in particular approaches and/or client groups other work more generally within the field. Mental health social workers have particular expertise in helping individuals whose mental health disorders co-exist with other problems such as family distress, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling problems, unemployment, and assist those suffering ill health, anxiety and stress due to the impact of caring for others. Services are offered Psycho-education (including motivational interviewing), Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) including: Behavioral interventions & modification, Cognitive therapy, Relaxation strategies such as Progressive muscle relaxation, Skills training, which includes: Problem solving, Anger management, Social skills, Communication and Stress management.
